Join UVA’s newest and fastest-growing school! The UVA School of Data Science is assembling an interdisciplinary and world-class faculty. We are seeking candidates who wish to join us as we pioneer data science methods and applications, innovate data science education, and collaborate on impactful research and solutions to real-world problems.
The School of Data Science values all faculty and strives to foster an equitable workplace environment regardless of faculty track or rank. Regardless of their role, faculty will have the unique opportunity to shape the culture and direction of a new discipline and new school.
- Associate Dean for Research (ADR) in the School of Data Science (SDS) will provide strategic leadership and vision for the research mission of the school. This role involves defining research directions, fostering interdisciplinary research, managing research administration, developing new research initiatives, and supporting faculty and students in achieving high-impact scholarly outcomes. The ADR reports directly to the Dean, is part of the Dean’s Cabinet, and collaborates with other academic and administrative leaders within and across schools as well as the University of Virginia Office for the Vice President for Research (VPR) to enhance the school’s research enterprise.
- Academic General Faculty on the Teaching Track instruct classes (in-person and online), conduct educational scholarship, engage in grant-driven research, and advise and mentor students. Academic General Faculty are afforded significant stability with long-term contracts, support for professional development, and leadership opportunities (e.g., all program directors are currently academic general faculty on the teaching track).
- Tenured and Tenure-Track Faculty develop internationally recognized research programs, successfully compete for external research funding, instruct classes (in-person and online), and advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
